• Trade & Investment Liberalization & Facilitation

Trade and investment liberalization and facilitation is the cornerstone of APEC's activities. The PSU’s body of work in this area includes assessing APEC’s progress towards achieving the Bogor Goals by 2020; reviewing the implementation of the Investment Facilitation Action Plan; and researching on trade topics such as on non-tariff barriers, RTA/FTA, digital trade and e-commerce,.

• Structural Reform

The PSU supports APEC’s agenda of removing behind-the border barriers to trade by promoting structural reform within APEC. The body of work includes assessing APEC’s progress under the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) initiative and Renewed APEC Agenda for Structural Reform (RAASR). The PSU also conducts case studies on structural reform in the services sectors.

• Connectivity including Supply Chain Connectivity & Global Supply Chains

Improving supply chain performance in the APEC region is a priority area given its importance to trade and economic growth. The PSU reviews the implementation of the APEC Supply Chain Connectivity Framework Action Plan (SCFAP) and provides inputs in the development of the second phase of SCFAP and its monitoring framework. Other research topics include the role of services trade in global value chains, supply chain resilience and supply chain finance.

• Economic and Financial Analysis

Timely access to data and analysis is important in any decision-making process. The PSU provides such support to APEC members and fora through monitoring, analyzing and reporting macro- and micro-economic, trade and investment trends and developments in the APEC region. The PSU also manages StatsAPEC, APEC’s online statistics portal, and updates it with the latest data twice a year.

• Sustainable Economic Development

The PSU conducts studies on other topics that contribute to sustainable economic development, among them are MSME, women, and human development. It also provides technical support in the conceptualization and/or implementation of economic and technical cooperation programs.
