Media Registration Open for APEC Transportation, Energy Ministerial Meetings

APEC Secretariat Cebu, The Philippines | 28 September 2015

Media registration is open for the APEC Transportation Ministerial Meeting and APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting to be hosted by the Philippines in the port city of Cebu.

The APEC Transportation Ministerial Meeting will take place on 8-10 October and be chaired by Philippine Secretary of Transportation Joseph Emilio Abaya. The APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting will be held on 12-14 October and be chaired by the Officer-in-Charge of the Philippine Department of Energy Zenaida Y. Monsada.

APEC Transportation Ministerial Meeting (TMM), 8-10 October

Urbanization, economic development and the rising volume of people and goods moving within and between Asia-Pacific markets are putting increased strain on transportation infrastructure and threaten to undermine the capacity for trade and growth across the region’s economies.

Transportation Ministers from APEC members will take actions to drive economic growth through inclusive mobility and sustainable transport systems. Issues in focus will include people’s changing transportation needs; transportation safety and security; disaster resilient infrastructure; green technology and innovation in transportation; and regional connectivity.

APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting (EMM), 12-14 October

Fluctuations in global energy prices fall against the need for transitioning Asia-Pacific economies to ensure sustainable energy supplies essential to powering long-term development, meeting higher demand among the region’s three billion people and tackling associated environmental challenges.

Energy Ministers from APEC members, the world’s biggest producers and consumers of energy, will take forward new measures to boost regional energy security and inclusive, sustainable growth. Areas of emphasis will include improving energy access, renewable energy use, efficiency and reductions in carbon emissions.
