Ambassador Choi Begins Secretariat Work Review: Contribution to APEC Reform Process in 2005

Ambassador Choi Seok Young has taken up the post of Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat and circulated an open letter to APEC Senior Officials and Chairpersons of APEC fora.
In his letter Ambassador Choi expressed the Secretariat's sentiments on the recent tsunami disaster and hopes for the survivors in dealing with the aftermath of the catastrophe.
Ambassador Choi also noted his confidence in the APEC process which under the leadership of SOM Chair, Ambassador Kim Jong Hoon, will meet the challenges that have been set for the following year.
Finally Ambassador Choi cited plans that he has already initiated to review current APEC Secretariat work modalities to enable the Secretariat to "work better, smarter and more cost-efficiently" in the future.
The review plan Ambassador Choi is implementing is an important part of the APEC reform agenda of 2005 that calls for the improvement and strengthening of the Secretariat.
