APEC Viet Nam 2006 Logo Unveiled

Ha Noi, Viet Nam | 24 April 2005
The logo for the 2006 APEC year that will be hosted by Viet Nam has been unveiled by Viet Nam's Deputy Foreign Minister, Vu Dung, at a ceremony in Ha Noi.
Drawing on the image of a traditional Vietnamese conical hat the logo also incorporates an oval that is representative of the global community in continuous development. The logo uses three colours, yellow, red and blue, to represent Asia, the Americas and the Pacific.
Mr. Dung said that he looked forward to seeing the logo used for official functions and publicity for APEC 2006, an occasion that he described as the biggest international event the country has ever hosted.
The logo was designed by Mr. Nguyen Van Dong from Ho Chi Minh City following a contest that attracted more than 140 entries. In making the award the design contest's judges applauded the logo that they described as "highly symbolic and easy to understand."
With the logo now having been officially adopted it will always appear along side the central blue and green APEC logo.
The 2005 host of the APEC process, the Republic of Korea, is currently preparing for the range of APEC events that will take place throughout the year before it passes hosting honours to Viet Nam in 2006. Included in this schedule in Korea is the Annual APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and Ministerial Meeting in November, the APEC Energy Ministers' Meeting in October, Finance Ministers' Meeting in September, Small and Medium Enterprises Ministers' Meeting in August and the Meeting of APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade in June. Korea will also host three remaining Senior Officials Meetings and a range of other APEC fora meetings.
