Media Registration Open for APEC Structural Reform Ministerial Meeting, Third APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting

APEC Secretariat Cebu, The Philippines | 08 August 2015

Media registration is open for the APEC Structural Reform Ministerial Meeting on 7-8 September in Cebu, to be chaired by Philippine Socioeconomic Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan, as well as the Third APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting that will also take place in this port city on 5-6 September.

APEC Structural Reform Ministerial Meeting (SRMM), 7-8 September 2015

The APEC Structural Reform Ministerial Meeting, known as SRMM, will bring together Economic Development Ministers from the 21 APEC members to build greater capacity for growth in Asia-Pacific markets. Focus will be on rounding out a five-year initiative to improve the ‘ease of doing business’ in APEC economies and developing new performance targets.

Third APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM3), 5-6 September 2015

The Third APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting, or SOM3, will be led by Philippine Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Laura Q. Del Rosario, Chair of the 2015 APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting. Senior Officials from APEC economies will take further actions to drive new growth sources in the Asia-Pacific and ensure the benefits are widely felt by the region’s three billion people.

Strengthening regional economic integration will be at the top of the agenda, including the next step for the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) and development of a new APEC Services Cooperation Framework. Mitigating shared threats to trade and economic growth will also be in view, with attention to advancing policies towards sustainable urbanization, safeguards against pandemics and preventive health, and water management, among others. Additional focus points are expected to include human and institutional capacity building measures pertaining to the groundbreaking APEC Anti-corruption Authorities and Law Enforcement Agencies Network (ACT-NET) and the inaugural meeting of the APEC Group of Friends on Disability.

SOM3 will build on a cluster of technical exchanges to take place in Cebu over the preceding two weeks. In total, they will include participation from around 2,000 delegates under 20 APEC working-level policy groups. Senior Officials will also consider recommendations to come out of a key APEC Business Advisory Council meeting in Melbourne, Australia on 10-13 August.
