Description

This project examines a number of regulatory tools, initiatives and reforms that economies can consider to address the incidence of overloading and poor loading of road vehicles.

The paper argues that excessive and poor loading of road vehicles can have a significant negative impact on safety, productivity and infrastructure quality outcomes. This in turn can erode wider economic and social outcomes through increased transport costs, diminishing returns on infrastructure investment, and reduced amenity and safety for road users and local communities. To begin to address these problems, the paper outlines a number of steps for regulators and policymakers to consider.
