Description
The amount of seaborne trade continues to increase and, in parallel, the quantity of dangerous goods transported in packaged form in containers is growing dramatically in APEC region. Preventing accidents involving seaborne containers carrying such cargos is increasingly challenging and crucial for the safety and economy efficiency of the APEC region.
Some accidents involving packaged dangerous goods arise from a lack of knowledge of the applicable international regulations and the challenge of ensuring that all of the relevant people involved in ocean shipping follow these regulations rigorously.
In this context, Japan held the workshop/seminar aimed at achieving safer seaborne transportation by enhancing APEC economies’ understanding and implementation of the regulations that can prevent such incident/accidents. This report presents the outcomes of the workshop/seminar held from 13-15 November 2018 in Tokyo.
