Description
The contribution of women to economic development in APEC economies, like in many other regions, has still not reached its full potential. APEC Leaders have promoted initiatives that enhance women’s economic empowerment, leadership, entrepreneurship, skills, and competencies. The energy sector is particularly affected by gender disparities. Under the project, Empowering Women as Managers in the Renewable Energy Sector, the United States Department of Energy implemented a training program to support women’s career development in the energy sector. By increasing their knowledge of renewable energy technologies, markets and policy, and facilitating professional exchanges and peer-to-peer mentoring, participants were enabled to develop sound, comprehensive and convincing business plans. The project helped develop the skills and confidence of women to advance in their careers as leaders and entrepreneurs in the energy sector.
