Case Studies on MSMEs-Specific Provisions in FTAs

The primary objective of the two case studies is to examine MSME-related provisions in both Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs). The case study highlights Malaysia’s initiative to strengthen MSMEs, focusing on drawing lessons that can be adapted for broader application across economies in the region. FTAs are typically bilateral or multilateral agreements aimed at reducing trade barriers, while RTAs involve multiple regional partners to foster broader economic integration. These case studies align with our goal of bringing together policymakers, practitioners, and industry leaders to explore how FTAs and RTAs can be leveraged to enhance the inclusivity of micro & small enterprises. Additionally, they aim to identify ways MSMEs can better capitalize on the benefits of these agreements. A key focus is creating awareness among government officials about the specific needs of MSMEs, ensuring that future policies are practical and responsive to their challenges.
