Description
This report provides a comprehensive review of the current status of APEC economies regarding certification systems for hydrogen and its derivatives. The main objective was to assess institutional arrangements and practices across member economies to identify gaps and opportunities for harmonization. These opportunities arise from the early stage of the certification ecosystem, which offers a significant window to develop systems that can be harmonized across economies. By analyzing leading international standards and gathering insights through technical exchanges and a dedicated workshop held in Santiago, Chile, the report consolidates discussions and delivers recommendations aimed at building a harmonized framework that enables low-emission hydrogen and derivatives trade among APEC economies. These recommendations help develop robust certification systems, guarantee product traceability, and ensure alignment with social and environmental standards, laying the groundwork for APEC economies to integrate seamlessly into sustainable global markets.
