Description
Packaging has a huge potential to prevent food loss and waste (FLW) and can strengthen food safety and food security by extending shelf life, allowing food to be transported across longer distribution channels as underscored in FAO’s 2023 State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World. This report details the workshop proceedings, recommendations for policy settings as well as capacity-building activities on reducing food loss and waste through packaging innovations. Furthermore, the workshop covers topics on how innovative and actionable solutions can lead to reductions in food loss and waste, and it reviews progress on data measurement, collaboration, and policy actions, which are the key levers for achieving meaningful results on FLW reduction in the APEC region.
