The project aimed to strengthen food safety in small‑scale aquaculture (SSA) across APEC economies by improving the collection and use of data on sanitary management and antimicrobial use. It addressed key challenges such as inconsistent record‑keeping, limited resources, and reliance on manual systems, which hinder productivity, traceability, and compliance.
Through a pre‑workshop survey, a three‑day capacity‑building workshop, and collaborative activities, participants developed standardized record‑keeping tools and practical strategies for farmer engagement. The project promoted data‑driven decision‑making and regional knowledge sharing.
Key outcomes include the design and validation of a standardized Data Record Set, improved awareness of data’s role in productivity and food safety and strengthened regional cooperation. Overall, the project demonstrated that simple, accessible, and tailored data systems are essential to enhance sustainability, market access, and resilience in SSA.
