The Final Report presents the findings and outcomes of the APEC project on AI and the Future of Product Recall Systems in the APEC Region. It examines the current strengths and challenges of product recall systems across APEC economies, drawing on surveys, expert interviews, desk research, and a regional workshop involving regulators, international organizations, academia, and industry. The report assesses how artificial intelligence can improve the identification of unsafe products, strengthen recall effectiveness, support market surveillance, and enhance consumer communication, while recognizing the importance of appropriate governance and safeguards. It also documents good practices and emerging initiatives from across the region and internationally. The report concludes with seven practical policy recommendations, organized under the three pillars of governance, digital infrastructure, and regional cooperation, to support the safe, effective and responsible adoption of AI in product recall systems.
