This project saw the sharing of best practices and capacity-building on the role of battery energy storage system standards (BESS) to promote safety, energy resilience and sustainability of the APEC economies. Through activities - such as research, surveys, and a workshop - conducted over the course of 2023, APEC economies' stakeholders were able to exchange knowledge on the initiatives, policies, and implementation case studies within APEC economies, discuss improving BESS adoption with quality infrastructures, and build capacity on clean energy-related topics. The activities have enabled APEC economies’ stakeholders to develop heightened awareness of the safety concerns and requirements of the deployment of BESS infrastructures, understand the need to incorporate these concerns and requirements within domestic regulations like standards and conformance infrastructures, and were keen to further battery and BESS collaboration across the private, public and research sectors across APEC economies.
