APEC ensures that goods, services, investment and people move easily across borders. Members facilitate this trade through faster customs procedures at borders; more favorable business climates behind the border; and aligning regulations and standards across the region.

The publication summarizes the outcomes of the APEC Workshop on “Shaping Digital Transformation in Accreditation,” held online on 30 September 2025.
The project examined the current status, challenges, and future directions of digitalization in accreditation across APEC economies through a preliminary survey and practical case studies. The survey identified uneven levels of digital maturity, widespread use of hybrid digital-manual processes, and key barriers including limited financial resources, shortages of IT expertise, and difficulties integrating legacy systems.
The workshop shared experiences from accreditation bodies on digital platforms, system development, stakeholder engagement, and process optimization. It also explored emerging uses of artificial intelligence in areas such as document review, translation, and report preparation. The report concludes that digital transformation should be pursued through phased implementation, internal capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement, supported by ongoing knowledge sharing and cooperation among APEC economies.
